Describe the Process of Excitation Contraction Coupling
Step 1 Excitation Contraction Coupling. Excitation-contraction coupling ECC is a physiological process that links excitation of muscles by the nervous system to their mechanical contraction. Excitation Contraction Coupling An Overview Sciencedirect Topics In skeletal muscle ECC is initiated with an action potential generated by the somatic nervous system which causes a depolarisation of the muscle fibre membrane sarcolemma. . Thus the excitation-contraction coupling process begins with signaling from the nervous system at the neuromuscular junction Figure 1031 and ends with calcium release for muscle contraction. Stimulation of the muscle fiber by the ACh neurotransmitter generates waves of action potentials impulses that spread out across the sarcolemma. Excitation-contraction coupling is the combination of the electrical and mechanical events in the muscle fibres and is related by the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. ...
